We spoke to Jetstar yesterday about taking a small box of organic bottled/tinned baby food for our two infants on our trip in May. Apparently you are allowed two items checked in luggage per infant e.g. car seat, stroller portacot and this does not effect your 20kg per person limit. I asked if it was possible to take a small box of tinned baby food, weighing the same amount (or less) than a portacot as one of the items allowed to be checked in for the infant. Jetstar said that because the policy didn't specifically list a box of baby food, we could not check it in as an infant item but would have to check it in as part of our 20kg luggage allowance. Surely the spirit behind the policy is to allow families with infants to take some additional items for the benefit of their infant(s) without impacting on their normal 20kg luggage allowance (clothes etc for parent and infant).

I'm just wondering if anyone else had had any experience in checking in special dietry requirement tinned baby food or anything else specifically not mentioned in their policy. Maybe someone with a little more common sense at the airport may not read the policy so narrowly and allow us to check in as an infant item?
