before taking such a large financial plunge you should go up to Bali for a 6 month stay and rent.
If you are serious about buying you must be planning on staying longer periods. Use the time to get a feel for what it is like staying in bali and not being on a short holiday - i.e. dealing with everyday life.
Use the time to have a really good look around at your options and to discuss the legal stuff (which you need to be very careful about) with reputable lawyers. Also look into taking a contract on a house say for 2 years and test the waters. If you are up there more often you are likely to find better deals when it comes to buying so renting for a while first is a good option.
