The Legian Village Hotel where we stay has safety deposit boxes at reception, not room safes.
I have never had problems with this, nothing has ever gone missing in over 35 trips since 1974.
I would be a bit suss leaving passports etc in a room safe, altho we have when we have travelled in other countries.
I like the system at Legian Village and feel comfortable leaving money, passports etc in the box.
