The first day or so before we leave Aus. This makes sure we can get a taxi, eat and drink without having to change money in a flap at the airport. Although rate is always less it is wotth it for peace of mind at the other end. I usually change $100 here and get it in small denominations. This also provides small change when you need it as sometimes hard to get.
