this is a very common practice in Australia & quite a contentious one
we own a small motel & do not guarantee a booking without these details. on the one hand we are expected to trust our prospective quests but the client is understandably reluctant to trust us
(you know your trust worthy, but the establishment doesn't - the establishment know they're trust worthy but you don't) if the client doesn't wish to leave their details we would be reluctant to take the booking
it's quite sad, but the fact of the matter is, too many places have been left holding the bag, be it no shows, runners & damage to rooms without any guarantee.
from what we have read about Tegal Sari, by past posters, they seem to be a quite reputable resort
at the end of the day it comes down to, do you wish to stay there or not
