Get settled at the hotel and have a walk around the hotel grounds and check it out then head out into the streets.
Be ready to politely say Tidak Terima Kasih (teedack teareemaa karsee)as many people will offer you massage, clothes, hats etc etc etc etc etc.
Dont bother opening any scratch cards or prize cards that people may wish to give you or do any surveys - these people only wanna sell you timeshare.
Soak up the atmosphere of the streets - and dont be afraid to stop and grab a drink every couple of hundred metres in the small bars and restaurants.
Change some money at one of the Kodak shops or take it out from an ATM.
It is a lot to take in in the first few hours so take your time and if you end up a fair way from the hotel then jump in a Blue Cab and head back to your hotel for a swim and a relax.
Head out for dinner and maybe just follow your nose or head to one of the many fantastic places you have probably read about on here.
Have a great time and dont get to flustered by the noise and smells and hard-sellers - just keep cool and relaxed and always smile - and you will always get a smile back !!!
