CC for hotel accommodation is USUALLY ok but I have 2 friends that had their details used months later in different countries. The CCs were ONLY used at a 4* hotel. Changing your credit card, if it happens, is a bit painful in itself. But if you have regular payments taken out of it as well, you have to advise those companies of the changes, and heaven help you if it is in your hubby's name! The term primary cardholder is enough to get me frothing at the mouth. Yes I'm speaking from experience after himself lost the CC when on a trip with the 'boys'.

So cash would be the safest, but you will need loads of it! Do you have a CC that you can cancel, if need be, that won't cause any grief? If not, do you have time to set one up?

So yes, I'd go CC for accommodation, cash for daily needs and ATM for backup. If you are booking tours on the street I THINK they only take cash anyway.
