Im a travel agent and 2 hours will be fine.
I travel to Bali often and was last there in November 08.
2 hours prior was fine. Nothing less than that.
Big airports I always recommend 3 hours however Perth (not sure where you live) and Bali are no problem with 2 hours.

Maybe compromise with your husband. Check in 2.5 hours prior. Perfect!!!!
