They are building a Theme Park on the waterfront in Makassar. Hence I think the new airport. It will be along the lines of Disney and other theme parks around the world. Fort Rotterdam has a long history and very interesting to walk through. Also on the beach front as it was used as a fort when the Dutch were there and in WW11 used to house Japanese war prisoners. Has a great Museum. Makassar is home to the Bugis and Makassarese people. Long long history as the Bugis were the first Indonesians that visited Australia (NT) and they were actually the first muslims to Australia. The Bugis are very interesting people with a colourful past. Beautiful towns in the hills not too far away from Makassar. There are nightclubs and plenty of shopping.
