If you are staying in the one place for more than a few days< I don't think you can go past the ease of a villa or apartment and the SPPS are huge. We took our 2 boys there when they were 12 and 8 and they loved the huge kids pool with a huge slide. I appreciated the space and convenience of a full sized fridge, water cooler (as opposed to bottles) and laundry.
The downside is that the suites are not on the beach but we did not find the shuttle bus (which stops at Hardies supermarket en route to the Suires' beach facilities ) a hassle. The shuttle to Kuta was also very cheap. Taxis are about $2-3 AUS.
How you balance the 5 minutes to the beach versus the luxury of 2 bathrooms, space enough to avoid the chaos of a small hotel room is really up to the individual.
Best of all though is that Sanur is a bogan free zone unlike Tuban, Kuta or Legian.
Seminyak is also delightful but way more expensive and less family friendly that Sanur.
