If there is a chance to make some money the money changers will be there. They know when the planes are landing and will be there no matter how early or late it is.
The Taxis also work on this principal, so no worries about getting a taxi.
I wouldnt bother changing any money in Australia to Rp. The exchange rate and fees are terrible here.
We just buy US$50 before we go from our local bank. so that we have correct money when we get to bali, then change a small amount at the airport for taxi's etc. then change what we need on the streets as we go.
