There were heaps of very sad looking dogs around Ubud and I always made sure that I was between them and the kids, but none of the dogs even looked at us sideways so we never had any problems.
The monkeys freaked me out more, as I know from experience they do bite and scratch! but again went through the forest plenty of times and just kept our distance, no problems.

Pondok Ayu is down a very narrow lane and there was usually a couple of dogs that were 'in love with each other' in the lane but they looked very well taken care of and there were also lots of little kids around so the dogs were obviously OK.

I think to just ignore the fact that rabies has been identified in Bali would be utter stupidity, but I tried to keep it in perspective and I just kept an extra eye on dogs that came a little too close.

Thanks for the comment on my jbr's, hope you have a wonderful holiday.
