when it comes to other hotel facilities such as restaurants, bars, and entertainment. Hotel patrons have an expectation that they can eat in the hotel restaurant without booking, or get a good seat to see entertainment, but if it's booked out they get pretty upset if they can't just walk in. It's not viable for hotels to rely on guests only to patronise their facilities.
I worked in resorts for over 10 years and I would say that in general they have a pretty good sense of how much is too much.
