We were more than priveleged to go there in Jan this year with a Balinese family for a cleansing ceremony, it's a very traditional part of their culture and quite moving to see the family involved together. If you can, go up with a Balinese family. With all due respect, and please don't read anything into this as coming from a smart arsed know all,if you do go up there PLEASE don't rock with a couple of tinnies in shorts and T shirt. Respect the Balinese culture by wearing the correct gear, sarong, udung, shirt and sash, you can but them for peanuts and you have them for all times.I can assure you that it will be appreciated and not go un-noticed.
