Tegal Sari - haven't stayed there but have dined across the rice fields near it. Looks delightful, is on a flat part of Ubud, close to shopping and is adjacent to a mega paddy field. Being next to paddy fields is beautiful if the rice is mature enough, otherwise you may end up with a view of mud!
Tjampuhan - stayed there Oct. 2005. Lovely position on the hillside next to the river, which you may here but not see due to the thick vegetation. The surrounding jungle and hotel gardens make for very pleasant walks within the hotel grounds. Pool lounges are in short supply as there is not a lot of room for them. The spa is a delightful grotto where you can have a treatment overlooking the jungle, but you don't need to be a guest to use this facility. Very nice, HUGE room but no fridge (not even for hire),or T & C making facilities. Its in a hilly part of Ubud AND it was a hike to our room, but for this unfit 40+, it was quite manageable. There is a large supermarket close by, some shops and a couple of retaurants.
