Our last trip we DIY, next trip in March and Oct/Nov same.
Do lots of research and double checking, write ALL infomation down and constantly compare your notes.
Double/triple check everything - even reading through your potential booking with someone else.
Usually we get flight center to book any long stay accomodation (anything over 7 days) as they will price beat on most occasions (even beating 'wotif').
We have been very lucky to get Air Asia's free seat deals on 2 occasions, and in March Jetstars $199 one way fare Bris to Bali.
If you are patient and have the time you will be rewarded.
*One of my tips I dont mind sharing (the rest are top secret lol) is forget Hotel Transfers if you are a confident traveller. You can save upto $90 per person. Even when we have booked through an agent we have told them no transfers.
If this is your first time of overseas travel then book through an agent!!!
