I loved that sumba was so completely different to anywhere I had ever been, including bali. I felt as if I was in place that had a mix of african style of living and yet very much Indonesian. Like I saw tip trucks with heaps of men riding in the back. The people carrying their produce in huge baskets on their head walking into town with no shoes on. Beautiful coastline, lots of palm trees and gorgeous green rolling hills. Yet the people are extremely poor.
Best part was because I went on a mission, we got to visit a village, where the people still live in huts. I just fell in love with the heart of sumba, the people and especially the children.
Im not sure if there is much to do there as a tourist though, only because thats not why I went there.
I'd be happy to email you some photos if you like.
