Just back and I spent considerable time in hardware store isles. My husband is a tradesman and was working on our villa. We took most of the tools he needed with us, generally superior quality in Oz e.g. cutting discs, rulers, string lines, tile laying equipment, plumbing gear and other bits and pieces. Yes, our luggage was very interesting indeed and by the way got straight though customs in Bali, no questions asked. You will find tools in Bali, but usually not cheaper and the quality can be dodgy. Ace Hardware is worth a wander. What we did bring back to Oz were external door locks which we purchased at Mitra10, but quite heavy with all their components. A lot of their gear is handy man stuff and not trade quality. Having said all that don't be surprised to find something out of the ordinary. Enjoy you holiday.
