I own a Bed and Breakfast establishment as many of you know in Darwin.

I am grateful the "bed bug" issue has been raised as it is a problem all over the world. The more travelers become aware the more chance we have to limit its spread and guest discomfort.

From an establishment owners perspective it is a very difficult problem to try and prevent. One cannot fumigate guests and luggage upon check in - this would be absurd.

Yet at the drop of a hat if a room becomes contiminated the entire reputation and ongoing business can be severely ruined by the stigma attached. Your housekeeping and Health practices maybe of the highest levels however this does not make you immune.

This problem has no specific boundaries and occurs in all star rating accommodation.

My only suggestion is for travelers to report occurrences directly with the Hotel management. Another minor but helpful thing is please use the luggage racks provided and avoid placing cases on beds and Lounges.
