get out of their five star enclaves and shop around there are still plenty of bargains, quality accommodation and reasonable priced restaurants in Bali.
We only ever stayed in a five star hotel once and never again, just not our scene and definately not needed in Bali.
If people want to spoil themselves then they should not complain about the cost.
Last Dec/Jan. we stayed in a three star hotel with two pools, king bed, aircon, frigde, 60 channel tv, delightfull staff for Aus$45 per night and it would have been a hell of a lot cheaper had the Australian dollar been stronger.
We paid anywhere between 30,000 Rp ($5) and 70,000 ($10) per person for meals, 11,000 Rp - 20,000Rp ($1:50-$2:50) a beer.
Come to think of it you still owe me a couple of Bintangs:)
We have had it so good for so long and it is obvious that our falling dollar is also a contributing factor toward costs.
Bali is still great value for money and if some hotels are too expensive find a cheaper alternative.
There are plenty of them!
