I've stayed in both standard and superior rooms at MBR in the past and there are only a few differences. Room size is basically the same, so anyone who says the standard rooms are smaller probably haven't seen them. Mine had a huge queen sized bed, loads of cupboard space, a sitting area and I still could have danced around the room (if I was the dancing type, lol).

They don't have a balcony but there are shared balconies and seating areas in the standard room wing and when I stayed there, nobody really used them so I had them to myself anyway.

The standard rooms are a bit darker, mostly due to the lack of balcony, which tends to 'open up' a room a bit more. The bathrooms are slightly smaller, but there's not a whole lot in that either. Still had a bath with shower over it, toilet and basin.

If you can afford it, go for the superior rooms. They're in a better location - you have to walk much further to and from the standard rooms. It's also nice to have your own balcony to relax on.

If you don't spend much time at the room, and/or your budget is tight, the standard rooms are fine. The ones on the road side of the corridor do get a bit more noise so perhaps request the ones on the hotel side. I stayed away from the road side and had no issues with road noise. Just the occasional rooster or dog could be heard early in the morning, but you can get that in many hotels.
