Thanks for your reply. A CPITN chart should be done at every scale and clean it is a measurement of bone and gum loss around every tooth taken at 6 points per tooth. It is ok to remove subgingival and supra calculus from the teeth but you really want to know if the calculus has caused any damage. A normal probing depth around a healthy tooth is 3mm. The majority of people with gum disease in later life are unaware they had any problems if when having regular cleans this was not done.
