This was our experience.my family were sitting in a cafe near the street and a hawker would not give up and so another fellow at the cafe came to our rescue and told us to just use this word and it should always work a treat.(he was european and said he lived there.) the hawker left staight away.
We tried to remember the word as it sort of sounded like john young or zon yun so we remembered it by thinking Johnny Young. The guy didnt actually stanslate it for us and we were a little worried we may have been swearing and so we stopped using it, but if it translates a firm dont then thats ok. thanks,
