Arrivied back last night after 12 days in Bali.
Weather was around 30deg and humid, but very comfortable, same as Qld weather at the moment.Did rain for a couple of days, but that doesn't seem to matter much.
Stayed at the Bali Sorgawi Hotel Legian Klod Kuta. Nice hotel, down a long laneway. Paid $30 US per night less 10% because of the longterm that I stayed. Had a standard room, though small was comfortable. Good floor is best you are next to the pool.
Breakfast each morning was average, noodles, rice or eggs was about the choice. But that was fine. I had a look through the Adi Dharma Hotel further along Legian towards Kuta, it looks very nice indeed.
A little bit more expensive but very nice.
Bintang was 13-14ooo at all the smaller places restaurants/bars etc. But around the 20000 elsewhere. The Apache Bar near Kuta square sells two for one Bintang, from I think around 5pm each day.But problem with that is, like me you may end up rolling out. Coffee at Starbucks is expensive but good, around the 30-40000. I had to have a good coffee now and again. Is nice and quiet there to, for a break from the streets. I ate mostly anywhere that the prices were good.Paying around the 15-20000 for Nasi Goring.I used the Nasi Goring as a guide for prices. You can get pretty good pizza for about 30000. There good for that price.
I hired a Motorbike as they like to call them..a Yamaha 110 cc Twist & Go Scooter for 30,000 per day plus insurance. So for 7 days hire I payed 260,000, thats cheap and the bike was almost new. Shop around there everywhere. As for riding in the Bali traffic... to start with I was very...stuff that...but riding around on a bike was what I wanted to do, so I did. It is WAY EASIER AND WAY MORE FUN than you think it will be. But of course you must have good riding experience, if you have that go for it. It is actually very organised. I found it safer to ride there than here in Australia. And no one gets upset about anything on there roads, and as for finding your way around, that comes fairly quickly, I found my way to Ubud and down to Ulu Watu easily, just ask as you go... its wonderful. go for it.
I took at driver from Kuta to Ubud to see some dancing cost me 200,000 each way. You may be able to do better than that, but I found that about the price. I went to the dancing and then back again. You should be able to get them to show you around for that price as well.
If you like it quieter and a great place also.. stay up at Ubud, ...Kuta, Legian are very touristy. It is good to see, but next time around it will be Ubud for me.
All is all Bali is a wonderful place, you will enjoy it.
Except maybe for the constant..Tshirt-massage-money change etc you get hassled for on the streets. But thats all part of it, and what makes it special.I'm not much for the tourist things, waterparks etc, so can't help there. I suppose I go for the people and to feel the culture.. Oh yeh and they will rip you off for fuel with the bike too. Will cost you about 15,ooo to fill. They were charging me 49,000-36,000 etc until I figured it out. They seemed to pull a figure out of there head. But again it's all part of what trtavelling is about. Hope this helps..ENJOY.
