Just about every eating place I've found around Padma, Padma Utara, Garlic Lane etc. is cheap & very tasty food. You should get a great meal for around A$5-A$8 per person (say 35K Rp to 55K Rp), even cheaper in 'cafe' style places.
Basically just have a wander around the nearby streets & check them out (look at the menu for pricing & see how well it is frequented by tourists). Should give you a good idea. Just try them out 'coz everybody had different tastes & opinions. The problem with relying on forum recommendations is that everyone's particular preferences are different and their definition of a great meal is also different. To make things even more complicated, a great place to eat one month can be terrible the next, due to changes in ownership or staff etc.
You'll be blown away by the variety & don't shy away from the local dishes which are the BEST.
