Obviously the money the government has comes from the people of Australia. However, when we pay our taxes, it is placed in their hands. They are the ones who decide how it is spent and therefore I don't think making the generalisation of ‘get(ting) something from the government' is unreasonable. You are just being pedantic. You have missed the point of my post and gone off on a tangent. I was defending Sharon. She didn't ask for the money, she was given it by the people we made responsible for all our tax dollars, the government Australians elected. Therefore, if someone has an issue with the lack of conditions placed on how the money was to be spent, they should take it up with the Labor Party.
And I think your comment of, me, ‘as a student, are definitely getting (a) cut' is just silly. What's your basis for this? Who are you comparing me to? You're obviously not comparing these times to those when Gough was in power and university was free. Or Nordic countries, in which higher education is still free today. During Howard's time, Australia was one of the only leading economies to reduce funding to tertiary education. I am paying tens of thousands of dollars for my course (more if I do honors and masters) and my whole career will be based on giving back to the community. Therefore, is it me getting my fair share or an investment to the future of Australia?
Anyway, this is a Bali Forum, not one on politics so I'll leave it as that. I just couldn't help but respond to your post...
