If you are only making a quick call you're better off calling from your mobile phone.. Buy a sim card in Bali. Make sure your phone is not networked locked. I think the rates work out around $0.90c minute. Someone else may know an exact price. You can also use a wartel. Basically a public phone. Many are located in the same building as an internet cafe. last time I used one, I think I was paying around 7500rp a minute about 4 years ago. or you can do what I do. Create an account at www.voipbuster.com. Add some credit $10 or so. and then to make a call you need a computer to initiate it, (use a cheap internet cafe for 2 minutes) but the call is from your mobile phone directly to the phone in australia. rates are 10cents flagfall and 22c minute. I have seen calling cards available, but the one and only time I tried to use one, it would not work, so I've never bothered since. Don't expect telstra quality or even close when using a cheap alternative like Voipbuster normally has around 0.5 - 1 sec delay, but the voice quality is normally quite good. Most cheap phonecalls will have a small delay. Alternatively and it may not be an option for you, but you can ask or sms the person in australia to call you with an australian calling card. At home I use a voip phone through a company called pennytel.com Cost is 38.8c untimed to indonesian landline or 15c minute to indonesian mobile and the call quality is normally quite good.
