in North Sulawesi. One of my Resort's engineering staff was married some months back and he was SO proud that his was a "FIVE-DOG" Wedding Feast! There are many restaurants advertising themselves as "Rumah Makan RW" (Dog Restaurant).

It is said that "the Minahasa people will eat anything that walks". A visit to the traditional market in Tomohon will reveal cages containing live dogs waiting for slaughter, "Tikus" (Field Rats on Skewers), "Paniki" or "Lawa" (Bats - wings and bodies sold separately)and Snakes (most popular is a large Python)- along with the usual array of fresh fruit, vegetables and seafood. It is a "featured spot" for the Resort's guests doing a "Minahasa Highland Tour".

The Resort's Executive Chef has produced a dish "Sapi RW" - Beef flavoured with spices used in cooking Dog so guests get the "flavour" and not "the animal".

When eating at a local Minahasan Restaurant I must admit I am particularly careful in exactly what I am ordering.
