I took my 7 year old daughter riding at Umulas and they were great. The provide helmets and chappettes for the riders. They had a rider to accompany both her and I and there were 2 other young girls in the group (around 20) who had experience who rode unaccompanied. If you select the beach ride it goes along some quiet roadways and through a residential/village area to the beach. Then along the beach down to Legion. It was about 2 hours I think and that was long enough for me. My poor old Knees started to suffer. My daughter was a bit offended that she was lead all the way but as she had very little experience I was happy with that. When we return to bali I will send her on a ride a couple of times on her own. While she has been riding for over a year now and has her own horse I would still prefer her to be accompanied by a guide. They also offer lesson and have an extensive compound and stable area.
