climb of Gunung Batur and it was fantastic.
To see the lake below, other mountains of Bali in the distance, Lombok's Gunung Rinjani on the horizon and clouds rolling in from the sea while the sun rises above them was a truly magical experience. It was arranged for us through a driver (Wayan Budiarta +62 812 390 5344).
We were picked up at 1.30am (staying in Legian) and began our climb at 4.00am. The climb itself took about one and a half hours and was steep and difficult in some places but overall not too bad.
I've read about and seen photos from the top of Gunung Agung and, though it is almost three times the height of Batur, you don't appear to have the clear 360 degree views of Batur or the luxury of being able to move around relatively freely at the summit as you do on Batur.
