I held back responding to this post as I have answered heaps of times so far and thought someone else may help......
The whole Island goes off. They love NY. Whistles and horns continually blowing.
All Indonesians that where born before records were kept (not that long ago) celebrate their Bday on NY eve as they don't know any better of when they were born.
Most major roads in and around Kuta get closed off and it is only walking or much later a cab will cruise past. And they charge a set rate of usually 100.000, no meters. WHY? because they can!
Every bar, night club, restaurant and every home has a party. They party in the streets.
This noise starts about 1 day before and goes all night till dawn. Then and only then do you realise just how loud things got for sooooo long.
You could be anywhere and it will be a PARTY.
The beach from Kuta to Seminyak is a huge party in itself. A huge stage is errected on the beach with sound systems only concert on tour carry. BBQ's all along the beach selling satays and esky's doing double time trade. HEE HEE. The music is local bands and from Java also. (can also be viewed on direct telecast TV if u didn't want to be on the beach)
As I said the Island goes off in one bloody huge party. My experience of the past 10 NY in Bali.
