we were there in the lead up to, during and after the executions. we promised to stay away from the touristy areas, which helped her a bit and rang fairly frequently (but we did break the promise and took the kids to waterbom park - we only told her with a photo when we got back). ask your mum what would alleviate her own fears and, if it's reasonable, go along with it.
