Bottled water on the other side of customs in Australia and because it is after customs it is not subject to the liquid limit!
Some airports in other countries have the xray machine at the boarding lounge and make you give up your drinks even in some cases your duty free just before you get on the flight.
We always buy in the lounge so we have plenty to drink before take off.
Virgin doesnt usualy give out freebees so i would buy it before you board.
