Yep the 60.s before it became a tourist dumping place.
Kuta beach,No electricity then, the 1 best cafe was 'Jennicks" on the left on the way to the beach where the entertainment was the mangey dogs fighting under your table for the scraps you threw them..
A few Losmons were all that was available on the main drag,a dirt road then, to the beach,[We stayed at Losmon Buddi on the right to the beach] except for what we thought was a very flash low rise beach hotel on the left right on the beach.
I think that one was named the Kuta beach hotel then.
Sunset on Kuta beach was a traditional place to be,and a lad would climb a coconut tree to sell you a fresh coconut.
Other travellers just chilled out on a joint.
No prob back then picking up a wheelbarrow full of grass, from the travellers heading back to the land of Oz.
No big deal.
The beach was not unusable is it is now,the sand was white, and there were no hordes of vendors ,which nowdays are more irritating than Blowflies.
A big treat was going to Denpasar to the 'Three sisters Cafe" for frogs legs.
Only transport was the tuk tuks, that never passed a corner without stopping to place a small offering to their gods.
Gees,and they call it progress!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hate to date myself, but I have been fortunate to have experienced Bali when it was a paradise.
I guess many of you can recount these experiences.
