At least you can laugh about your story but so many don't have the extra glasses as a back up. I would happily pay an extra 20,000 at the entrance if they would keep the monkeys away. It is very intimidating for some and I've heard that there are tour companies that refuse to take their clients to Uluwatu now because of the monkeys. Having said that, I was there about 3 weeks ago and the place was packed for the Kecak Dance.

The other thing that really bothered me was that people were climbing ovcer the cement wall to get their photo taken, while standing right on the edge of the ledge...with a drop of hundred of feet behind them.

I was with a group and half of them didn't want to go to the temple (because of the monekeys) so we went and took a seat in the stands waiting for the dance to start. That's when I noticed all these crazy tourists climbing over the wall for the perfect photo. Honestly, I couldn't even look in that direction it was so stupid. One wrong move and over they go. I am nervous of heights so it might have bothered me more than others but it was really a crazy thing to do.

Everyone I saw climb over the wall was Asian so maybe they are more comfortable with standing looking down 200 feet and no barricade behind them. It was a good thing it wasn't windy as one strong wind and who knows where they might have ended up.
