Aug 2007 Syd-Dps 3 Aussies (mid 30s) on our Jet* flight did a serious job on their Duty Free. Well into their second bottle of vodka they were wrestling and falling about in a sea of empty juice containers they had raided from the galley. Cabin crew studiously avoided them as we approached DPS. Reclined seats, tray tables down and no seat belts were ignored as the fun continued. Only when they lit up a smoke on final approach and other passengers were on their feet in the aisles did the cabin crew react.
A remarkable scene ensued as stewardess demanded the cigarette which had by then been "thrown away" somewhere under the seats in the sea of rubbish. As we turned in for landing absolute pandamonium was in progress!
On the ground the crew tried to hold back the party animals from disembarking but it took the enthusiastic involvement of a couple of large and very annoyed passengers before the main culprit could be detained.
Not for long tho - in the immigration queue and who should come pushing to the front but our drunken ring leader. Long hair and clothes in a mess, dragging a bag and a bottle. The other passengers objected and it was on - swearing and screaming he was forced to the back of the line.
Always nice to have those visas stamped and leap into a taxi but this time it was really good to be clear of the airport and able to reflect on the ugly aussies and the marvellous way the cabin crew avoided dealing with the problem until it was almost completely out of control.
