the west side of the island very rarely venture out of the concrete and tar jungle that they call home.
They are yet to learn the difference between north and south. In fact most of them are proud that they can count to 5 without using their fingers.
When us village folk take the massive 12 kilometre ride over to their side of the island they get all excited and greet us as though we are world travellers. We just take it in our stride and slow down the conversation so that they can keep up.
I once mentioned that it is possible to sit on the beach in Sanur and watch the sun set over the ocean.
After a group discussion, they advised us that there are no sunsets in Sanur. They seem to assume that the sun stays over here for 24 hours per day.
Generally they don't know very much but they tend to be friendly.
