the very similar tax in Indonesia which is usually referred to as PPN (pajak pertambahan nilai = value added tax) No Indonesian business pays GST or VAT to another country but must pay PPN at 10% of gross income to the Indonesian government every month. I have a business in Indonesia and in Australia and each is registered under respective tax laws so I do understand the similarities and differences - a big difference is that in Indonesia you pay monthly on full gross income with no deductions for tax you may have paid out for purchases or services, unlike Australia where there are deductions and exemptions and you pay 3 or 6 monthly.
