I normally divide the cash into separate envelopes (one for each day of the holiday) I find this way you never run short towards the last few days!! Hubby (first timer thought it a stupid idea) so didnt use my method. He ran out of money and I had heaps left (obviously I had to "lend" him some) But the motto here is that you keep a loose eye on your spending and obviously some days you will spend more than others. I decided to use this way after I watched a couple completely run out of money and had 2 days left. Close friends lent them some money, but a bit embarrassing.
A credit card is handy if you really get stuck with an unexpected expense like a hospital visit etc.
