Mykbear, as having just left Bali and spent 4 days in Ubud it depends on the type of person you are. If you like it full on things to do and see and stimulation, Ubud itself caters more to a laid back vibe. Plenty of places to shop, get massages, eat and its central to the north coast and east coast. Great place to use as a base for Lovina/Singarajah and Amed, Candi Dasa. Also getting there you'll go through the stone carving Batubalan, Mas for woodcarving and Celuk for silver/gold.

For me, I found 4 days plenty but then I didn't do any day trips. It was the perfect way to start this trip to Bali because it was cooler there and got me to unwind from Melbourne life into Bali's.

Know you'll love it either way!
