have stayed there three times now for two or three nights but going back next week!!! and staying there 7 nights. I only have a week in Bali this time with my 10yo daughter who has never been so decided to do the week in Ubud as I love it there so much. We will go down to Kuta twice for day trips to shop and go to Waterbom park. Ubud has heaps of stuff and as long as you have a hotel with a pool I think kids will be fine. I certainly enjoy the more relaxed shopping and found things there that I ddin't see in Kuta./Legian area.
The markets are great although the bartering is pretty fierce there.
Restaurants and scenery superb! I think from memory its about an hours drive if traffic is heavy.
Safara Marine park is reasonably close and they have a shuttle bus from Ubud which I plan to use this time.
