In the 18 years that I have been travelling to Bali this way of transporting the luggage has been the same. I dont do organised transport any more and just have friends pick me up so it is not a problem, but when I was using the hotel or travel agent transport I would allways say that my bags had been out of my sight and have not been with me for the last few hours.
There is also the thought that they are thrown in the back of that van or ute... what else is that van used for during the day???? They swipe your bag at the airport for chemical residue.... I allways wondered if the vans are used during the day to transport other items for the hotel or whoever and then your bags are in there. Is it not possible that they will have something on them????
Also.... in Australia when you check in and they ask wether I packed my own bags and have they been with me since then, I allways let them know that I have flown up from Tasmania and so therefore they have been handled by many people since I packed them that morning.
Don't know if it would make any difference in the end if something were to go wrong, but it is worth trying.....
