When i went to the safari park in march this year, there was a white tiger, which is now grown and in the enclosure.. i believe it was sedated then as it was getting very large!
I believe it depends on the animals nature as they are all different.
We questioned the keeper who spoke great english and he told us that they start to handle the cubs at 2 months old and handle them daily until they are 1 1/2 years old (getting to big and dangerous).
they are trained from a young age that biting and clawing at humans is not allowed (dont agree with how they show them NO).
