I didn't think there was any D/F left in the City, I don't think that even the First Duty Free have a shop, since the closed the one in the Hay St Mall, but I could be wrong!
The problem is with the restrictions of getting bottles of hooch past the security such that it is easier just purchasing from the D/F in the outbound lounge.
The other thing is that it is often cheaper to purchase electronic and photographic equipment when it is on special at a normal discount store, all you save is the GST, which you can claim back if you purchase within 30 days of departure.
The only thing I found is that First D/F sometimes have specials which are worthy of purchase, we have just returned from a cruise around the Med and flew into and out of 5 airports and using a bottle of Gin as a measure, and we found that Perth was the most expensive, and the best was Dubai by about almost $5AU over Perth, there is little to be saved anymore which is a bit of a shame!
Hope this helps a bit.
