I do not believe that your Telstra Prepaid Modem will work in Bali as it is designed to work on Telstra's 3G network.
Bali obviously does not use the Telstra 3G network. In fact, Bali still uses a 2G network.
BUT, if your laptop computer is a wireless enabled laptop, then it should work with the various restuarants, coffee shops and hotels that allow customers WiFi access. You may have to ask for the password to access the network, pay extra or buy a drink/meal.
You could also switch on your wireless enabled laptop and see if there are any WiFi networks are in your vicinity.
I am aware of a Australian communications engineer who has taken up a job in Jakarta to implement a 3G network in Indonesia. It will not be a Telstra 3G network.
