It sounds like you like your son to be with you. My son is also 17 and has been to Bali 6 times and we just let him go out and do his own thing now. He has made friends over there and knows his way around. He never comes out with us at night he goes his own way and we have learnt not to worry because he doesnt come out with us back home now as it is not the in thing to do. Maybe if your son finds a friend they will be able to wander off on their own your choice. You just have to trust them.
