it is predominately Muslim. As the other poster says most of Indonesia is although many of the Eastern islands are predominately Christian.
On the beach or around the pool your normal bathers will be fine but it would be insensitive to be topless (not that you planned to be probably) Wearing a sarong away from beach or pool would be inappropriate.
In the streets tee shirts are better than singlets and if you are going to wear shorts they would be better to be long.
We were returning from Thailand via Singapore last week and boarded the sky train at Changi airport at the same time as a group of young Aussies who were on their way home from Bali. They seemed like really nice kids but I felt bad for one young girl because obviously nobody had told her it wasn't appropriate to fly home from Bali (whether via Singapore or not) wearing only a sarong!!!
That's an extreme example I know but wouldn't it be good if when you got your envelope from the travel agent (or ticket if you booked your own) there was a note telling you of these things?
