The problem is not that it has hovered around 5000-7000 for a couple of years but they Balinese have upped their prices accordingly and now it is as cheap to holiday in Australia. Why would you pay $3aud for a small beer (unless at happy hour when cheaper), even a hamburger is dearer than in Aust. When one considers what staff are being paid, even with our worthless dollar the prices they are charging cannot be justified. Do not get me wrong about Bali, I love the place but am getting a bit sick and tired of getting ripped off more and more each time I visit, which by the way is quite often. And I do not think the $ will bounce back as there are a lot of smart richies out there making quite a packet at the moment dealing in the futures of people at the coal face.
One thing the hotels should do is put prices in rupiah and get away from the YANK $ , they caused the problems and now their $ is worth more than ever.
