Much as I don't want to upset Melanie any further than she already feels, people need to understand with all these new 'budget' airlines the rules are explicit and are strictly adhered to. They don't hide the info about the luggage restrictions. I have flown alot with various budget airlines over the last few years - Valuair, Jetstar, and alot recently with Tiger Airways. If you go a kilo over they will charge you! It does amaze me that people think they can rock up and talk their way out of their overweight fees. I too travel with young children & whilst it can be difficult - some of them will weigh the stroller and other stuff as part of your allowance, you've got to adhere to their rules or pay a dearer fare and go with Qantas or Garuda but even they are stricter now than they were.
Fair enough, the lady may have been rude & there's probably no excuse for that but I can understand they probably get pretty peeved with people being overweight and then complaining when asked to pay for it.
I hope they had a great time anyway!
