I really feel for you and your problems with this airline. Not a good way to start a holiday especially with a baby.
Had a problem last year when I paid for business and ended up in economy. I did end up writing to them and have now recovered some compensation. I know that they have a lot of complaints with Consumer Affairs - mention that in your letter - seems to get them to respond. Good luck and make sure you do that letter.
